Hello again. I honestly cannot believe that it is Monday already....This week just flew by. How is everything going back home? Mom, I heard you taught in church yesterday? How did it go? What did you teach on? I am sure it was a good lesson. =) Hannah, i had no idea powder puff was girls football. that is the coolest thing ever!!! Do you like it? Are you having fun with it? Tell me all about it? haha, man that made my whole day. What position do you play? How does it all work? Explain the rules to me. Did you know that i wanted to play football in high school, but mom wouldn't let me. I think she was worried about me getting snapped like a twig or something..I don't know why? ha. She is probably right though. Moms always seem to know best. but that is awesome. Does your school have t-shirts to buy to support the program? if so you should look in to sending me one. =) It sounds like things are a hoppin and happenin at home, cool stuff.
Well this week has been another good one full of fun and adventures. Yesterday was such a good day, and kinda historical. I am not sure if i ever fully explained how the wards and branches of singles worked here, but let me explain, so we covered the Eugene ward, and two branches. (springfield, and santa clara) They all met together at the same time. It was super confusing, because we had a bishop and two branch presidents always sitting on the stand, all from different wards and stakes, so when people would have announcements with sustaining votes there would be times when people would sustain and others wouldn't and so forth. Anyway, super confusing but then yesterday we had all three stake presidents come and it was announced that there would no longer be a ward and two branches but that collectively it would all be the Eugene young Single adult ward. It was a super exciting meeting and it makes missionary work so much easier, no that we don't have to go to three ward councils, and learn a bunch of different elders quorum and bishoprics names. haha, So that was definitely some big news! Also we had 3 investigators at church, another non member who isn't quite ready to take the lessons at this time, and Kris was there and soon should be getting the priesthood. It was a great day! The three people that came were Kevin, Stefan, and Devin. I will explain a little about each of them. They are pretty great.
Kevin: Kevin is amazing, He is the guy that came to church last week, with his friend named andres. He is in a dance crew and can hip hop dance really well. He also is a way good artist, He does graffiti art and is super good at it. I have a story about him that i will share in a few minutes.
Stefan: Stefan..he is a little crazy, but he is super fun to meet with. He has ashbergers (i have no idea how to spell that) and he thinks McDonald's is out to get him. He said one time that he goes to the gym a lot and the host at the gym was making faces at him because he knew it would get stefan to go to McDonald's and eat food there. haha. He is pretty cool though, we weren't sure how much he was understanding but we had a lesson with him where we checked and he remembers a lot of the things we talk about and the last prayer he said with us he said "thank you for sending the missionaries this way, and thank you for allowing me to have the feelings and knowledge that what they teach is true" How cool is that? He was supposed to get baptized a few weeks ago, but we wanted to wait and make sure he was progressing and prepared, so he will be getting baptized within the next two weeks. =)
Devin: Devin was a referral, and he is the most prepared person ever! He just needed a life change. We committed him to baptism the first lesson we had with him. He will be getting baptized on October 22nd. He really is so prepared. The lessons we have had with him have been so spirit led and he knows it is true. Yesterday we met with him and we started the lesson with by saying "do you have any questions for us?" and he said "what are the rules i am gonna start living?" we were like "hmm...well lets talk about them!" and so we all together learned about the word of wisdom the law of chastity and some of the other commandments. and afterward he said "well i knew coming in i was going to need to give things up. so why not start now? I have a tiny bit of coffee back at home i will go and dump out, no point in finishing it" How amazing is that?!?! He is great.
So the story with Kevin. We met with him on Wednesday and had an incredibly spirit packed lesson. the night before we were with the ysa for basketball, and i sat there after the lesson with Kevin just thinking about life and happiness (i have been thinking a lot about true happiness and how to achieve it because of a new favorite scripture Alma 27:18) and i thought about back home how i would play basketball with my friends and i would leave feeling really happy, and on Tuesday when i played with the ysa that is how i felt, then i had that lesson with Kevin the next day and it made me realize that true happiness is in helping others and myself be penitent and humbly seeking the will of the lord. It is in having the spirit with us and knowing it is there. Ammon teaches us that true happiness is rejoicing in our brothers and sisters staying true to the gospel, and humbly seeking what the Lord wants and following Him. If you have any thoughts i would love to hear them. You all are spiritual giants and can probably give me some more insight. it was just a cool contrast i thought i would share. =)
We had interviews with President Young this week, it was so so so great. He is so loving and patient with all the missionaries. these interviews were different than how they have been in the past, we used to have a district meeting and he would pull people out, but this time he had it set up in stations, in one room, one of the assistants taught in another the other assistant taught, elder hackett and i taught in a room, and then there was a room for President young and one for sister Young. Lets just say because our zone is so large, we were there from 7:45 am to 6:30 pm, with an hour for lunch in between haha, I had a really great interview with president which started with "your mom sure thinks a lot of you" haha, I love you mom. =) we had a great interview and i am so so grateful to have him as my mission president at this time. I cant wait for you all to meet him.
Well wow, i am sorry this email is kinda long. But i wanted you to know that this week has been super fantastic. I am learning so much and i love this work. Dad you asked about the apartment, there are still five of us living there, it is looking like that will be the permanent fix. It is better than where we were though. It is weird how fast time flies though, transfers are in like two weeks, and i will have been in Eugene for six months.. kinda nuts. haha, I hope all is well back home and everyone is doing great. Hannah is your homecoming this week? if so have fun, make sure to dance a box of books of Mormon apart ;) haha, i love you guys. Thanks for all that you do for me.
