Hey guys! how is it all going? it sounds like things are going really well for you! How was the cabin? was it fun? how was conference??? did you enjoy it? i know i sure did. I am just sad i have to wait 6 months before i get to listen to it again. So i wont talk too much about conference because i just sent a letter out today with my thoughts and some revelation on it. but tell me what else has been going on? It sounds like you are all super busy...
So this past week has been a really good one. and this is what i will be talking about in this email. haha. so first of all, as you know Tuesday we had a baptism. It was really good. but it almost didnt happen. On Tuesday morning i woke up and and we had a really great day planned, but as we were about to leave the apartment, i felt really strongly that Daniel needed a phone call or us to drop by or something. so I decided to give him a call. I could tell someting was wrong because when he answered he did not sound like he normally does. he was reserved and quiet. so i said "Daniel we are so excited for tonight!! how are you feeling?" then he said "i think i am just gonna go back to my own church." and my heart just sunk, i did not know what was going on. but we had a great conversation, and calmed his fears, and the baptism turned out great. He said afterwards that it was the most important and best day of his life. =) I am so grateful that the spirit can prompt me to be better. Also this week i had the opportunity to be part in giving a blessing to a man named Stan Everest, one of our investigators. he wound up in the hospital with MRSA. He was isolated in to his own room where we had to put on gowns and gloves and get all clean so we didnt get it. it was crazy cool. I dont know why i am tellin gyou this it was just a funny experience i guess haha. this week we took two of our investigators to have a lesson at the temple (it is so close why not use it?) it was such a powerful experience. we took art and vicki. they are boyfriend and girlfriend. art has a son who recently returned from his mission, and they are both scheduled to get baptized april 16th and are loving life. as we were walking around the temple they both kept mentioning things like "after we get married we can come here to get sealed" and "i cant wait til we can go inside for ourselves" it was awesome. well during the lesson, they mentioned they were working on rebuilding there relationship so i did an example where Elder McMakin posed as our father in heaven and art and vicki were themselves in the shape of a triangle. and everytime they did something like baptism, or repenting they moved closer to God (elder mcmakin) and it was such a powerful experience. after the example art turned to me and said "your going to be a teacher arent you?" and i said uh...i dunno.haha. then he said "if you dont, you'll miss your calling in life" i thought that was a pretty nice thing to say. =) we taught the vaoifi family this week. (the samoan family) i had praise the son, play the ukulele for me, i was so mad half way thruogh his song my memory card ran out. so now i have to buy another one. i was a little sad. but that is ok.
so this week Elder mcmakin and i came up with a new tracting techinique. (all by ourselves haha) we call it "trattitude" it comes with a quote. "if only you could see the vision as i have. i wish i had your bodies to do this work. i would run form house to house telling everyone of the gospel. after i lost the strength to run i would begin to walk, and after i collapsed from walking i would begin to crawl, and after my knees were so bloody that i could not use them i would use my arms to drag myself, and once every muscle in my body was gone i would begin to yell! oh if only you could see the vision i have" -President Spencer W. Kimball.
After i read that with Elder McMakin, we decided we would apply that to our tracting. so what we do is we go with an amazing attitude. and after we knock on a door and they turn us down or no one answers we RUN to the next house, we do that for every house. let me tell you about the experience we had with that. we remembered that running is a natural high, and you cant help but be happy when you do it. we had at least ten people yell at us things like "hail satan" or "666" or things like that and we had one guy threaten to sick his dog on us who "would eat our faces off" haha. but because we were so happy we didnt even remember these until tht night. it was like we didnt even hear them. the very first person we spoke to became a new investigator, and overall we found 4 new investigators. we spent two hours tracting but it felt only like 30 minutes, we found 2 less active members , gave out 5 copies of the book of mormon, had a lot of fun, and grew as a companionship. It was so incredible. I loved it. and we are doing it more often.
well, family I sure do love you all. i am so grateful for the love and support you have for me. know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love and look up to you all so so much. If there is anything that I can do for you please let me know. =)
I love you all so so much. i'll love you forever i'll like you for always as long as i'm living my dad, mom, brothers and sister you'll be.
love, -Elder Haydn Nelson
